To facilitate cross-referencing, standardization and the searching of information, we have included here several tables consisting of glossaries of names of individuals, institutions, and locations in both Chinese and English.
Glossary Tables of Names:
The translation of Chinese names into English is difficult and has not been standardized until recent years when the Pinyin system was adopted. The English version of Chinese names in church records have not been consistent throughout the years. Very often romanization of the local dialect was used rather than standardized Chinese pronunciation. If you have difficulty finding the information you are looking for, please use one or more of the glossary tables below to locate them.
